In November 2024, I was gifted a Lenovo ThinkPad E16 Gen 1 by a good friend. This is my review of that laptop.
The laptop was selected as it's the standard issue laptop at my day job, which means I've repaired many and understand the product lifecycle well. From my experience, this model holds up significantly better than any other Lenovo model I've worked with for some reason.
As I immediately wiped the disgusting default bloatware operating system and installed a respectable Linux distro, I will not be reviewing the software. Hardware only.
Requirements for a laptop
- Discreet: Nothing flashy, must look like an average guy with a work laptop.
- Upgradeable: Should have some sort of upgrade path for storage and memory.
- Anti-gamer: Battery over performance, no integrated GPU, they shorten the laptop's lifespan.
- Good display: Preferably a WUXGA display, but it needs to be a good low-res display, 4k is not acceptable to me.
- Many ports: What's the point if I can't plug stuff into it? It needs a variety of ports.
